چکیده

Brinson’s one-dimensional constitutive modeling for shape memory alloy (SMA) is extended to consider the asymmetric tensile and compressive behavior as well as the torsional behavior. The incremental finite element method using linear Timoshenko beam elements is formulated by the total Lagrangian approach for the superelastic, large deformation analysis of SMA helical springs. The NiTi helical springs are analyzed and the calculated results are compared with the experimental results to show the validity of the present computational procedure in actual design of SMA actuators. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Finite Element Modeling of Magneto-superelastic Behavior of Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Alloy Helical Springs

The previous study by thefor the finite element analysis of superelastic, large deformation behaviors of one-dimensional shape memory alloy (SMA) devices is extended to the magneto-superelastic analysis of ferromagnetic shape memory alloy (FSMA) devices. The commercial code ANSYS/ Emag for magnetic analysis is combined with the SMA superelastic analysis program developed by the authors. The num...

Superelastic Behavior under Cyclic Loading for Coil Spring of Ti-Ni Shape Memory Alloy

The superelastic behavior of coil springs of a Ti-Ni shape memory alloy was investigated using loading-unloading cycling tests under isothemal temperatures. The effects of the Ni content and shape memory treatment temperatures on the cyclic behavior in the superelastic deformation were investigated. The deformation behavior within the elastic region of the parent phase scarcely changes during t...

Effects of the asymmetric behavior of the shape memory alloy on nonlinear dynamic responses of thick sandwich plates with embedded SMA wires

In the present article, the dynamic behavior of sandwich plates with embedded shape memory alloy (SMA) wires is evaluated for two cases wherein (i) the stress-strain curve of the superelastic behavior of the SMA wires is symmetric and (ii) the mentioned curve is non-symmetric. A modified version of Brinson’s constitutive model is proposed and used. The high non-linearity in the behavior stems f...

Theoretical investigation of wear-resistance mechanism of superelastic shape memory alloy NiTi

Recent experimental research indicates that superelastic shape memory alloy nickel–titanium (NiTi) is superior to stainless steel against wear and could be applied in tribological engineering. It is believed that the super wear resistance of shape memory alloys is mainly due to the recovery of the superelastic deformation. Our recent wear study indicates that wear rate is very sensitive to the ...

SEISMIC OPTIMIZATION OF STEEL SHEAR WALL USING SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY

Nowadays, steel shear walls are used as efficient lateral-load-resistant systems due to their high lateral stiffness and carrying capacity. In this paper, the effect of substituting a shape memory alloy (SMA) material is investigated instead of using conventional steel in the shear wall. A numerical study is conducted using finite element method (FEM) by OpenSees software. For this purpose, at ...
